The Space Power over Ethernet (PoE) Manager is an advanced Power over Ethernet (PoE) controller optimised for use in Dynamic Space-Related applications. Designed to deliver reliable and efficient power to a variety of space-grade devices over Ethernet.
This solution integrates intelligent power management, real-time monitoring, and robust remote control capabilities. The Space PoE Manager is designed to consider the rigorous demands of space infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted operation and optimal power distribution in complex and rapidly changing environments.
The Space Power over Ethernet (PoE) Manager provides Space-System Integrators the ability to harness PoE Electrical Infrastructure for the purpose of Space-System Communications and Power Transfer that are conducting Dynamic Space Operations.
The Space PoE Manager is a bespoke implementation of the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Standard that is tailored to meet the requirements of dynamic space operations, offering autonomous, smart and flexible power delivery to Space-Systems in-orbit.
Concept of operation
Figure A shows the scenario of two space systems in orbit that are conducting Dynamic Space Operations, this could be In-Orbit Servicing, Proximity and Rendezvous Inspection or Manoeuvrability. In this scenario, Space System A (left) will be the provider of Power to Space System B using the Space PoE Manager.

Figure B shows the point of contact and physical interfaces connecting between the two Space Systems A and B.

At the point of contact, the Space PoE Manager in Space System A would manage and control the communications initialisation and power transfer to Space System B under the principles of operation below.
- Determine Minimum Viable Power Transfer
- Initialise Communications Link (Ethernet)
- Negotiate Power Requirement and Transfer
- Deliver Power and Monitor
- Continuously manage Power transfer dependent on mission requirements/phase
Technical overview
The Space PoE Manager is Deployed as software in an embedded System (On-Board Computer). It is designed so that User Application Software can interact with the Space PoE Manager to command the PoE Controller as required. The Space PoE Manager is provided with an API to provide access to the application for features such as Enabling/Disabling Power Manually or optimising power delivery outside of pre-configured settings.
The typical Architecture when deployed to an embedded System is as shown in Figure C.
